"I have a simple mission: To create an open-source, non-linear video editor for Linux. Many have tried and fallen before me, but for some reason I feel compelled to try myself. I am documenting my journey in this blog for all to read. It will be a dangerous journey, and I might not make it back alive. Hold on tight, and enjoy the ride! By the way, I'm calling this project OpenShot Video Editor!"

Merry Christmas everyone! Here is the first set of screenshots ever released for OpenShot Video Editor. They showcase a few of the features we are working on, including the awesome timeline! Please help us out by sharing these screenshots and linking to this blog. Also, as i said in my preview post, we are still looking for contributors that have any Gnonlin experience, so please contact us if you are interested in helping us. (view larger images)

[Update: These screenshots are constantly updated, and should reflect the current state of OpenShot]

Congratulations! You've progressed on the UI much more than I have! Keep up the good work, and don't give up! ;-)

Have you heard of PiTiVi? I am one of the developers. I'm also the author of the gstreamer video tutorials which you see on the website. We are competitors it seems. http://www.pitivi.org. Also, see my blog,
    http://dotsony.blogspot.com

No doubt we are going to encounter the same challenges/setbacks in our quest to finally make a linux video editor. But there's one other thing, the lead developer, edward hervey, is also the author of gnonlin. I am not sure how to feel just now, because what we have is a serious duplication of effort.

    Happy New Year !
the UI is beautiful. Gstreamer is and will be not stable for a long time. I recently discover MLT inigo which is more mature and very more simple.
I wan't to help you but I can't find sources.

Brandon, thanks for the comment. Yes, I am familiar with you and the PiTiVi project. I am on your mailing list and great buddies with Edward Hervey =).

In fact, on one of my blog entries there was a really, really strange comment that mentions you. You should go dig it up... it will make you laugh.

I have considered joining the PiTiVi project, but as of right now I'm content with where I am. I am still not convinced that Gnonlin is the right framework for OpenShot. Hopefully we can stay in contact and help each other out with some of the overlapping issues. Thanks.

Anonymous, thanks for the comment! Yes, I am also on the MLT Framework mailing list, and I have been in contact with Dan Dennedy (the creator of MLT).

I will be posting some MLT stuff soon, as well as some Gstreamer / Gnonlin / MLT comparisons. Stay tuned.

If you are interested in helping out, please send me an email at Jonathan dot Oomph at gmail dot com.
