Follow the latest news on OpenShot Video Editor!

,

OpenShot is still a young project, and not many people have heard about it. That's why I'm so excited that a nice story was posted (in French) on www.sum-up.fr. Thanks to Cenwen for putting this together. I really appreciate the help in "spreading the word"!

If anyone else has posted an article about OpenShot, please let me know so I can link to it, and let everyone know about it. Also, if you have any videos made with OpenShot (worth sharing) :) please send me a link and I'll post them.

    Hi Jonathan,

Thank you very much for your Video Editor.

Why ? Because this is the first VE which is accepting many new Video format as MTS, TOD, AVCHD which are the new HD Camera Video format.
Thank you very much to facilitate our life under Linux.
(Sorry for my english, i'm french)

NB : I'm ready to participate to this project as beta tester if you need some.

Just one more thing, In the French ubuntu forum, we discuss on your project and many people think that this is really interesting project.

Thanks for the comments! We aren't really in beta yet, but feel free to install OpenShot and help us test. We can always use help testing. It's easy to submit questions, bugs, and feature requests via LaunchPad.

I thought, beta test for the next releases !
I have a remark : is that possible to have a video profile (project type) to record video in the correct codec for BlueDisk Video or AVCHD DVD : H264 1080p/720p L4.1 + AC3 or DTS.
When I try to make a mkv with libx264, i have an error : consumer_avformat.c: video codec libx264 unrecognised - ignoring and when I use mpeg4, tsMuxer say : wrong format.

    Thanks,

    Fred

Fred, if you run the build wizard with FFmpeg option 3 (at the step where you have 3 choices), it will install libx264, and add the ability to encode h.264 video. Enjoy!

    Hi Jonathan,
OpenShot looks very promising and I'm glad I found out about it, and look forward to following it's development.

    A question:
I would like to help by doing some testing, and am wondering about the install process. I am running debian linux, and have installed ffmpeg from the debian multimedia repository (and possibly other packages that OpenShot uses). Will the installer for OpenShot overwrite the packages I have installed, and will the installed packages database become 'out of sync' in some way? Based on an earlier question I saw, it looks like it is not easy to completely reverse the installation. As a followon question, am I correct in assuming that the installer will update the installation as new development occurs?

Thank you for your efforts and time.

We would to have your help testing!

Our build wizard will always get the newest versions of all the dependencies (like FFmpeg & MLT), as well as OpenShot's source code.

I would recommend using FFmpeg option 3 (which is a question in the Build Wizard). I've only attempted installing OpenShot on Ubuntu, so you might have trouble if you are using Debian. If you have problems installing it, you can post a question in LaunchPad for us (i.e. the Support option at the top of the screen).

    Hi Jonathan,

I used the ffmpeg option 3 and I still have the same error (consumer_avformat.c: video codec libx264 unrecognised - ignoring). The output video has only the sound.
When I type ffmpeg -formats, I have the git version with the libx264 codec.
    It's a big mystery !
Another question : are all transitions working well ? For me some display only white during the transition. At least the firs transition is working, the next one not.

    Thanks for your cooperation.

    Fred

    Fred,
Feel free to post this as a question in launchpad, or file a bug. I bet FFmpeg had some issue during the ./configure and build process. And thus... never fully installed the new version. Just a guess.

  12. YAFU

    Hello.
I made an entry in Kubuntu-es [http://www.kubuntu-es.org/foro/200906/openshot-nuevo-editor-video-no-lineal-marcha ] to do know your project with the intention that the people who know about professional video editing, to become OpenShot testers and give you new ideas.
In the entry I do not recommend installing OpenShot to Linux newbies users, because OpenShot is not packaging in binary and not have an uninstaller yet.
Everything else are good words for your project.
Sorry for my English, I speak Spanish.
    Bye!
