On September 3rd, the Ubuntu UK Podcast mentioned (@50:30) OpenShot Video Editor and had some interesting comments about our project. One question they asked was "Does Linux need another video editor?" Of course, you know what my answer will be. =)
Another comment was "I'll believe it when I see it." Well, if seeing is believing, then here is a video for you guys (and gals) at the Ubuntu UK Podcast. Drum roll please....

Does Ubuntu, or other desktop oriented free operating systems, and their users need stable, good looking, easy to use, but still versatile, non-linear video editor? It's a silly question.
Why do we need so many text editors? Can't we all just agree to use emacs? KDE people should stop development right now, we already have Gnome and it works fine for most people. ;)
Of course Choice Is Good. Competition drives development. Free software lives if it has users (and community), and if particular piece of software is not needed, we don't need to kill it. It'll die naturally.
Personally I think it's stupid to say that some free software is not needed (generally). If someone develops it, clearly there's at least one people who does think this software is needed. If other people don't need it, they won't use it, but theres no need for them to preach against that software. "We" don't use software. Individuals do. Question to ask is not do _we_ need it, we should ask do _I_ need it.
The way free / open source software development works is not weakness. It's a strength.
Choice, freedom = Good
Lack of choice, monopoly = Bad
I need better free video editor. I think many free / open source software users agree. And then there's a bunch that already are happy with existing choice or don't need NLE at all.

The application looks very promising but I tried something very simple and it crashed on me. (Added two images and a transition and it crashed on playback).
I have found all linux video-editors to be fragile. Why is that? Is it a shared library which is causing the crashes? Is the it complexity of the problem? Is it the lack of good software engineering (unit testing)?
Anyway, the interface for openshot makes me think it has a good future ahead.
Kudos to the developers.

Waoh! Very good video! so I created manually under existing /usr/share/gnome/help a new branch openshot/C with inside all files and directories found in http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ wildnfree/openshot/help-manual/files/head% 3A/usr/share/gnome/help/openshot/C
and there is not much, but it works fine!
Good team job !

@brazz
good mean to launch the help-manual, you can do that too with this command
yelp ghelp:/home/brazz/french-help-manual (or help-manual)/usr/share/gnome/help/openshot/C/openshot.xml
In fact, we are two on the manual (to do simply, i have created a draft, helen has after created a base, after helen have some problems and less time,( and me more) i have traduced it and continued on and created a structure and after developped it in the same time, a awesone work on a hard task at the table (it's not easy also we are volunteers not professionals and we must all codes and code a table it's not a easy task !).
Hey it's that the team's work. One do something, and the other done another thing. A lot of work has been done but we have yet a lot of work to do too. When will have finished it , you 'll know it , like the software, we'll have need your help to translate it .
But now it's too early. Jonathan will say you when it will be the time.
You can have the last (the more evolved) version of the manual at http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ eolinwen/openshot/french-help-manual.(in french sorry for the moment) it will be a idea of our work.
An page on wikipedia english version has been created (a wonderfull work of helen yet) another in french and italian has been begin to created, Helen has so created a FAQ (beautifull work yet) here https://answers.launchpad.net/openshot/+faqs. All take time and search to do that. Don't forgotten that we are only like you, only simple women and men. In all cases all your comments are our motivation. Be patient, it's comming

Hello Brazz,
Worry not! The rest of the manual will be up there soon.
I just have such a busy schedule at the moment that I have to share my time out rather thinly.
Best wishes, Helen
