One of my co-workers was inquiring about why am I taking on such a large project? Was I going to get paid? If successful, would I become rich? So, I thought I would share my underlying motivations with everyone.
My motivations are simple: I want to create a powerful, stable, and artistically kick-ass video editor for all the Linux users in the world. That's it. No hidden agendas. And honestly, if their was already a kick-ass video editor for Linux (for free), I would never have started this project.
I really like the work that was done on Diva (a previously failed video editor), and I will definitely use that for inspiration. Here is a screenshot from the Diva project, may it rest in peace. =)

Just saw your page. I encourage you in your commitment. You'll surely be "the one".
Didn't try the program yet, though. I'll follow closely its evolution, and perhaps help in any way I can.
Best regards from spain

I have entered the Linux world with Ubuntu and from that entrance I have been looking for a video editor that recognizes format AVCHD, so I am crazy to prove it. What it interests to me is that he is fast, since the present video editor that use with xp is very slow and hangs itself. I will be thankful for the change. I will be kind to the new news. I have liked history of the development of OpenShot. Thank you very much and spirit.

Great project congratulations on your work, indeed it was time for someone to create a video editor for linux, because now we felt forgotten in this regard. the probe on ubuntu 9.04 and I did great, I am recommending to all users I know, continue with your work and strengthen the project.(if my English is bad is the fault of the translator of google)

I'm inspired by your motivation and aims! Wish u Godspeed...
As far as python language is concerned, i think it's a great choice cuz it results is faster development. And if "Blender 3D" can make it in python, so can you people...
I would suggest that you make OpenShot plug-in based just like firefox. Have a good stable openShot base program with necessary functions built-in and have plug-ins add extra features to it.

I am a newbie in Ubuntu...
There are only few who feel the responsibility towards the Society. you are the ONE of them, thank you for this very nice Project. i Hope it will soon achieve its target.
I would like to thank the OpenSource Community and people working on it day by day to make the world better.
I hope this video editor will soon be the best one for Linux and Ubuntu users.
Have a great day .... everyday..

Very good work!
I just installed it yesterday night, but from what i saw, it's:
- Easy to use
- Friendly GUI
- Lots of effects to test
Quick feature idea for a future release: Demultiplex function to be able to use multiplex cctv... ( I know, it's very specific ;-D )

I like your work. You should submit a paper on the next linux.conf.au on 2011.

OpenShot is really a "Kick Ass Video Editor". I've use LiVES before now I'm an OpenShot fan.
Here is my first video edited using OpenShot.

I think the Linux community has found it's "Killer Application" ;-)

I've tried various editors in linux and this one is what I was looking for. I wanted one that could handle "offline" footage, which is low resolution, so I can edit on my laptop with minimal hard drive space. That is one of my favorite features of Final Cut Pro.
Does the Ubuntu install work on a powerpc?
(I'm using OpenShot on ubuntu 9.1 on my 3 year old son's dual processor Pentium3-600 MHz, yeah!.)
Keep up the good work. I used Linux Broadcast about 10 years ago and liked its promise. From what I understand, that eventually converged to cinelerra, which doesn't do offline video editing, only dv. Kino only does dv too.
Keep up the good work. Cheers.
