If you would like OpenShot Video Editor to be packaged and included in Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx), then please help us out. We have a Request For Packaging filed with Ubuntu, but we need you (our users and supporters) to mark the bug as "Yes, it affects me".

We want to be sure that OpenShot Video Editor is a highly requested application, and thus have the best chance for Ubuntu to include us in their repository. By marking this bug as "Yes, it affects me", we should quickly rise to the top of the packaging popularity list that Ubuntu maintains.

If you are a packaging expert, and would like to help package OpenShot for your favorite Linux distribution, please join our LaunchPad team and help us out.

    I would like to have Openshot included, but, as of right now, one of Openshot's dependencies is causing problems (frei0r-plugins) in ubuntu. See here, http://www.insidesocal.com/click/2009/11/ubuntu-karmic-fail-pidgin-and.html

    When this problem is fixed, I'd love to see Openshot be an included package in Ubuntu. Until then, I'll leave Openshot uninstalled.

    Happy new year?

    Is there somewhere I can read a list of features you are working toward for version 1.0? I am a professional industrial video producer and guerilla videographer.

    I am extremely excited about openshot. Please help me escape from my apple prison. But, I need to see a minimum of integrated multi-track audio editing capacity to know this is becoming a practical tool for me and the masses to get my votes and donation. Audio is frequently the more important component of a video.

    @Qwerty800,
    Happy new year to you and everyone else!

    @Don,
    We will be publishing our long term plans after the release of version 1.0 (due to time constraints). However, if you have ideas on how we should work with multi-track audio, feel free to post a bug report with your suggestions. We'll add it to our "wishlist".

    I would like to have OpenShot included, but last time i tried to install myself in 9.10 VLC became unable to play several video files that it can normally play. So I ended up having to uninstall a lot of your libraries, and reinstall VLC.
    Du you have any plans to fix this?

    @Morten,
    Our new PPA has addressed the problem, and no longer touches FFmpeg. It is safe to install side by side with VLC, Totem, and any other FFmpeg application. =) Enjoy.

    @Jonathan Thomas: I did file that bug/feature request titled;
    Multi-track audio editing using key frames. When that is in place, that's when I start test-production with openshot on my projects...and evangelizing for it.

    I did the "Request for Packaging in Ubuntu".

    Thankyou for taking this on Jonathan. Rock on with your bad self.

    It's only about the practical and getting down to brass tacks video for me...and speed. How fast can I turn the video around in post? I need fast BASIC video, text graphics and audio editing functionality which is rock solid that renders immediately. In terms of audio, I cannot function without
    Multi-track audio editing using key frames (to adjust volume levels)
    At the end of the day, that is 90% of what I am doing with audio in post.
    8% of what I do involves basic EQ. 2% is sweetening and getting rid of audio artifacts hiss.

    473+me as of today :)

    It is going up... but I can't really tell if it is much...or will be enough... Is there any drink party somewhere we could meet to fest the 500 user ?
    Just kidding...

    After version 1.0, OpenShot install parties shall be organised all over the world... it would help...
    ;-)
    Just a thought...

    I have installed from PPA on Ubuntu 9.10 64, no issue during install, the application started fine... I did not have time yet to test it... keep you posted...

    This PPA feature really rocks !
    Cheers.
