Want to upload your finished videos to YouTube or Vimeo, but hate using a web browser to do it?
You are in luck, because OpenShot now has an easy to use, integrated "Upload to Web" feature! A new, extensible upload service back-end has been added, with initial support for YouTube and Vimeo.
How does it work? It's super easy! There are a few different ways to use this feature. The easiest and most obvious way is now baked into our export dialog. The user can choose to "Export to Folder" or "Upload to Web". The user can also find this feature by right clicking on any video file in their project, or using the File > Upload to Web menu.
A progress bar shows the upload progress, and a notification is displayed on your computer when the upload has finished. By the way, getting a progress bar to work with YouTube and Vimeo was a really big challenge, and it really kicked my butt a few times. In fact, OpenShot might be the first Python app to ever successfully tie an upload progress bar to the YouTube Python API.
I am really excited about this feature, and I believe this is yet another innovation that will help differentiate OpenShot from the other Linux video editors.

Would it be possible to add support for Picasaweb?

Giovanni,
This feature has not been released yet, and is still in development. Thanks!

Anonymous,
It looks like the Google gdata Python API does not yet support uploading videos to Picasaweb. However, once they support that feature, it should be very similar code to the YouTube support, since both use the same API from Google.

This project is so good and I have been using it for so long that I feel bad for not contributing to it. Any suggestions on how i can join the community?

Yesterday EditShare released a Beta of the LightWorks open source edition. It is no compare to OpenShot's usability. It is quite buggy an I could say unusable. Thy also didn't release the sources yet (open source project. sic) just a binary for Windows.
I just made this comment because I had read for LightWorks on a post here.

Can we PLEASE get a ripple edit button first? I need to shift my hundreds of clips (on tens of tracks) by 54 frames and I'm not about to do that individually.
Let alone slipe, slide and rolling edit buttons :p
Amazing work nonetheless. Keep it up.

I work for a school in NZ. We never have a budget for video editing. Movie Maker is pathetic and yet the teachers won't give it up for openSHOT. It must be a Microsoft based video editor [very sad!]. So after a 12 month wait for Lightworks I can happily say that I am extremely disappointed with it. OpenSHOT is just easy to use. I still have issues with the timeline in OPENSHOT but I am confident that these will go away soon enough.
Keep up the great work!

Just noticed that this doesn't have a section for tags! That's a pretty glaring issue for a youtube uploader!

Great feature, but I'd also insist in needing tags

Ubuntu 11.10/OpenShot 1.4.0 there is upload to YouTube only. Am I Missing something or upload to Vimeo is not done yet?

Hi slash opt, Unfortunately, the Vimeo upload API only works with a specific version of Python. Python 2.7 (which comes with Ubuntu 11.10) is not compatible, and the Vimeo upload breaks. So, until I find a fix, OpenShot just disables Vimeo uploading on certain versions of Python. Hope this helps.
Thanks,
-Jonathan
