Are you looking to add a sense of drama or perhaps add a sense of realism to a scene? Then you might be interested in an animated lens flare!

A lens flare is created in real life when a bright light is reflected or scattered on a camera lens, creating generally unwanted artifacts or washing out of the image. However, many film makers purposely add lens flares to their scenes for artistic reasons.

Which brings us to another new feature announcement! OpenShot now has a lens flare animation, which allows the user to adjust the starting and ending location of the flare, the brightness (at the start and end), and many other glare related settings.

Here are a few example lens flares, created by adjusting just a few simple settings. These flares are animated, and have a transparent background, so they can be added over any video with ease.

Here is the lens flare animation screen in OpenShot. It is just as simple to use as other animations in OpenShot. Set a few parameters, and click the "Render" button... and that's it. The animated lens flare will be added to your "Project Files", and can be added on top of any video clip.

    I'm going crazy waiting for the new version to come out! These daily updates are more than I can handle, haha. The new additions are absolutely beautiful. I just hope I can install MLT on the system I'm using to get the full benefits of the program. Keep up the good work!

    All these new effects are really awesome !
    But I think you should put effects which contain no text in another section like "3D effects", instead of the "Animated titles" section.

    What about the stability of OpenShot ? I mean, OS chrashes less than before, but have you still improve this ?

    Thanks for the comments everyone! I have not posted about the stability improvements yet, but that is coming up soon.

    OpenShot is more stable than ever, and in fact, I spent a majority of the last 2 months working on stability. =) Thanks again.

    I'm very glad to see that OpenShot is doing so well with no signs of slowing down development. I love finally having a video editor for linux that actually works really well.

    I was wondering, what does the future have in store for OpenShot? Will it eventually include more professional features, or will it always remain a simple (yet very useful) video editor?

    @Anonymous,
    What does the future hold for OpenShot?

    OpenShot's future hasn't been written yet. No one's has. Your future is whatever you make it. So make it a good one, both of you...

    Errrr... I think that answer turned into a 'Back to the Future' quote. =) Seriously though, OpenShot's future is whatever we (i.e. the community) want it to be. Thanks for the question.
