,

I know, it's been an entire week, and you are probably ready for another version of OpenShot! Well, you win, because today I am proud to announce version 1.4.2 has been released! This version addresses many locale and translation-related bugs, and contains the following highlights:

  • Fixed many critical locale-related bugs
  • Fixed reversed clips, for accurate IN and OUT points
  • Updated translations & fixed missing translations
  • Improved help manual (now supports Yelp version 3)
  • Fixed h.264 exporting for non-English languages
  • Full details available on LaunchPad

I do not expect to make a release of OpenShot every single week, but this version solves many critical locale-related bugs, and I felt it was very important we address them quickly. I hope everyone enjoys the new version!

Thank you in advance! This is a great piace of software!

This looks great! Is there any chance you could allow us to use transparent PNGs in place of text for the animated titles? This would be a great addition.

  3. Jonathan Thomas

@lol768, that is a great idea, and in fact, we already have that feature. If you drop a transparent PNG on the track above your video clip, it will work just as you describe. Thanks!

  4. lol768

@Jonathan, Thanks I should have figured that out :)

Is it possible to change the length of the 3D titles?

Very useful software! And so easy to use. Now anybody can create videos! When will this work on Windows or Mac? Most people use PC as their first OS preference. I'm just wondering if ur planning to expand this to PC users.

Any update on the C++ library yet?

Thanks for fixing bugs, it is now very much faster than before to edit videos.

I really enjoy using openshot, and find it to really be a handy tool. My only complaint is that through all versions it is very crashy. I have a very stout system:

Dual Socekt 1366 Xeon Processors, (quad core) hyperthreading enabled - so 8 real cores and 8 virtual cores. I have 48GB of DDR3 Registered Ram, and the main os drive is a 15Krpm SAS drive (with 3 10k rpm 2Terrabyte drives for auxillary storage. Two 30 Inch Dell Monitors as well.

Even with this pretty reasonably good setup, it crashes every few minutes. The same is true on my laptops and on my work computer. It has been the case from version 1 (the first I tried). I used to submit bug reports, but even when closed the crashyness remains.

Is there anything I can do to provide better debugging information or help figure out why it is so crashy? I augment now just by saving every few seconds but that DOES get old. I do know some python but not nearly at the level necessary to buildething like this. How can I help? som

Hey! I've been using open shot for art projects for the past six months and love the simple approach which covers most basic needs. One thing I struggle with and can't see as anything but a necessity is to select and move multiple clips. There is simply no way to do anything where future editing might be required without this feature - it's like writing before a word processor - you need to retype from the beginning to make a change lest you destroy your page numbers and layout.. If you could add this feature, OpenShot would really be useful in professional settings. Without, slideshows, no?

  12. Jonathan Thomas

Thanks for the suggestions! Remember, we do have a "Shift Clips" option, when you right click on a clip. It will move all clips (or transitions) to the left or right. Thanks!

Yeah! It gets better and better from version to version! Keep up the good work, and thanks!

Linux, Windows and MAC are types of OS.
All of them can run on PCs.

sorry but that misconception stemming from 'that ad' is irritating.

    Hi Jonanthan:

I suggest for the next version the option to export HDV in the basic settings. We need to export at 1920 x 1080 at 60i, 30p 24p - in full HD format.
I also suggest that it has an option where the unit of the timeline to become frames - allowing you to edit the frame by fame OpenShot.
    Congratulations on your beautiful work!

    Thanks for you effords!
It would be nice to have some visual sign on clip box on track indicating that fade in/out was applied.

This is a super great and vital piece of software.
Thanks for the excellent contribution to the open source community.

Just wondering if openshot is utilizing any cool display card features. e.g. UVD stuff from AMD cards or any acceleration stuff for video encoding or even clustering

Can I use this to produce live chromakey presentations to video projector (screen) or live stream??

  20. KiteAroundTheWorld

OpenShot is a superb non-linear video editor! I did notice a few minor flaws during video editing but they're not a big deal and can be avoided by doing things slightly differently. Given the quality of the product and given that it's free I have nothing but great things to say! I'll definitely be telling the community about your app. Keep up the great work!

I was waiting for this version to be release that is why I am very happy to found this post. I can't wait to have that version. It is an amazing tool for editing videos.

    Hi,
I am enthusiastic about openshot. It is a great tool. It could be more comfortable to work with if the modes (move, cut, stretch) could be changed by meta keys (shift, control, alt, and it's combinations).
Panel technology would improve usability tremendously. I mean replacing the properties dialogs with an always open panel in which you can edit the properties of the currently selected clip.
Third it would be great if it were possible to select more than one clip for moving them around to make space for a new clip to be inserte on the track.

If anyone has time, please work on getting 1.4.2 to precise-updates, so that Ubuntu 12.04 LTS users could benefit from the bug fixes instead of complaining about the bugs for the next five years :)

  27. aszabo

    hi Yoghi Bear,

Could you give some information about the dependencies on Centos 6?

Any plans to enable use Open Shot to be able to do real time live broadcasting?

(Offer an alternative to Vidblaster, Wirecast, Webcam Studio)

  29. Asterisktec

Thanks to Yoghi Bear for making that CentOS RPM .. really really really appreciated. Thank you :-)

It is a great program, very intuitive usage. Thanks!

But there is a problem with HD1080.
The powerful hardware requirements for this format.

The following feature may help a lot in such case.

If one could convert HD1080 to a lower definition format. Use this converted version to edit.

It would be great that OpenShot could apply the same operations to the original HD-1080 material based in the frame number of each segment.

Is a feature like this on your plans or can you considering it?

  31. Yoghi Bear

    @aszabo
Hi aszabo, sorry for the delay!
Here you can find a tarball with the list of dependencies of the package I compiled and which is free to download from my site and most of the uncommon dependencies (uncommon in the sense they are hard to find in every repository) already packaged in rpm for i686.
    http://pclinux.eu/downloads/OpenShot_Dependencies.tar.gz
    Hope this help.

    Yoghi
